Hi all,

Trying to figure out what I can do about passing on all the images/photographs I have taken and have, but I can't really decide on a specific one.

Option 1: Buy a external hard drive for pictures and movies.

This is a good idea that allows a lot of freedom as far as what we can do with it and what we can put on it. However though, it doesn't allow for "reliable" backup and use. The harddrive could be damaged (by means of corruption or dropped) and thus become useless (losing years of pictures). Backing up is also a problem as there would be no means of backing up the data except for having two harddrives and routinely cloning the main drive onto the backup. Having a harddrive is hard to use as someone would have to check it out and could get lost and/or other things.

Option 2: Picasa

This is another good idea. What we would do is to buy out a plan for Picasa (probably 200 GB for $50 a year) and then anytime anyone takes pictures for the team have them upload it onto Picasa. None of this of me having to tell whomever has pictures to email them to me, just tell them where to go and do it. Yeah it kinda places some reliance on Google as far as accounts go and their hard drives not crashing (but it's Google - they have the Earth as a HDD), but its easier. The bad things are that the photos will have to be downsized a bit (here is an example of what it 'd probably be), all the photos are being placed in the hands of a 3rd party company (i.e. we can't manage it and I don't know if we can get all the photos back if we wish), and uploadability.

Option 3: Picasa + HDD

Same as option 1 & 2, but having a external HDD for documents and movies. Mainly movies. Same problems as #1.

That is all I can think of. Any other options are welcome.

And this keyboard is really stick in Mr. Brunswick's room. Ick.

I personally had several experiences when I wished I could access the photos, but didn't feel like emailing Tanner and waiting for him to email me one only remotely close to my description. however, I don't like the idea of losing image quality permanently. I therefore votE for option C.

Also, is there some way to restrict access to YouTube videos, so that we can upload them to YouTube without letting others see them? If so, I vote for this, too.

I think C might be the best option as well, but it's a toss-up.

Though resolutions may not be a problem if people use non-DSLR cameras (aka point and shoot) since those photos are generally smaller.

Um, I think you can make a video like private for you and 15 other friends. Any particular reason why?

Getting some info from the people on ChiefDelphi, apparently you can only upload 5 at a time using a non-IE browser (what?! I though you were smart Google...) and albums are limited to 1,000 pictures. So it might take a while to upload all our pictures and organization would be interesting (seeing as I myself have ~8,000 pictures).

Would seem to be that Picasa isn't as good as I thought it was, which makes things really interesting. It's now like a competition between ease of access, storability, and ease of uploadability.

Thoughts?

Edit: Appears that you can also using either desktop applications or mobile applications. Though album organization is very limited still (1,000 per album, no subalbums, only sorting by date). Ick. I don't really know what to do.

Edit 2: Flickr offers a few more options. They have collections (basically parent folders which can hold sets), sets (groups of pictures), unlimited amount of pictures, and I think its cheaper ($25 per year).

Though it won't be much use at school since USB drives aren't allowed. People would have to take it home, which could be scary in my opinion and I wouldn't really prefer it.

That's a thought. It's not as easy, but its a possibility.

Still the problem with having a harddrive is managing it.

YouTube videos can now be "unlisted" meaning to access them you must have a secret link.

If we want to do this, we need to make a decision now so I can start. I have a LOT of pictures.

I think Flickr is the best solution thus far, but if not, we could just use gallery2 (what the gallery on our site runs). Though we would have to manage it (like backups!). If we don't backup and Sevaa goes down because of some freak storm, it's our fault, not theirs.

Thoughts?
