Drive Team

Postby Sunny » February 20th, 2010, 8:15 pm

So I kinda started to go into this in the other thread, but I wanted for this info to have its own thread.

So, how are we going to choose drivers? Well, I believe these qualities come into play:

""Driver - The driver needs to be good and work well with others. Skill, cleverness, and on the spot thinking are just some of the things that we look for in a driver.

Manipulatorer - The manipulatorer needs to work well with the driver. He/She needs to be able to follow the instructions of the driver and coach and run all of the controls of variable kicking, kicking, intake mechanism, etc. The manipulatorer has to be smart. He/she has to take chances when they are available to him/her, but stay in the realm of rationality.

Coach - The coach is highly dependent on the drivers. When the drivers need a bit more guidance on the field, then the coach should be a strong personality who can control the drive team as well as the alliance. When the drivers seems to be well off on their own, the coach should be someone who is not so dominating and provide the drivers as much support as possible.

Human Player - The human player will be responsible for handling the trident. Being semi-coordinated is a big skill. You will be expected to hand the ball off to the middle trident person many times during a match, and maybe even handle the trident in some cases.

Punctuality and Tenacity are required in every single one of the drive team members. Quick decisions need to be made, and if you feel that quick, critical decisions are out of your realm, then these jobs might not be for you.

IF you are chosen as a member of the drive team and your performance, whether it is on or off the field, is deemed unworthy of the drive team, then you will be replaced. We try to pick the best drivers each time around, but just know that the best drivers will drive. ""

Just some things about quality and driver notices that I think play into affect. I doubt that we'll be able to pick a group of four tomorrow, but we should be able to narrow down the field quite a bit simply based on skill.

This is a very important area.

We need to learn from last year, the Logan Rover. Our conveyor was great, our output needed work, our front ball grabber input was lacking. Our robots are not perfect competing machines. If they were, we would not need the human players.

We have to use our intelligent human players to overcome our robot's shortcomings. Our drive team can think much faster than the bot and make decisions based on the immediate situation.

If our ball grabber is not perfect, then move on and kick the ball into the other field, into the center zone, or closer to the goal. If a ball is not in front of us for kicking, we move around to kick.

We want to strive to have the optimum robot, but in the case we are not, we need to strive to have an optimum drive team.

This couild be the advantage that puts us ahead!

Me and Brad were trying out the whole human player aspect and we did very well
We timed ourselves and everything i believe 3.99s was our best time
I know it seems slow but until you actually try it you don't realize how fast you really have to move
we also figured out a few tricks
just saying...
What time is it? 1261!

Interesting. So it's more like a exercise than a job? :P

3.99 Seconds from what to what?

If you're talking about from the goal to the ramp: Excellent but definitely needs work.
If you're talking about from the trident to the ramp: I'm sorry, but I saw Dave Lavrey pull that off in just under half a second in the kick-off.

Hopefully everyone will get the chance to play around with that tomorrow. And since it's Sunday, maybe there'll only be a couple of teams so we can get the field to ourselves.

No its 3.99s from the time that the ball enter the little box in the goal to the time the ball passes through the box on the rail..... thats how they clock work.
