They're using wound up surgical tubing. The grooves force the ball to the center. This is basically what we're trying to do, but we were trying to do it more of a physical way. Although, I'm not sure how that thing would respond to a moving robot.
We could just etch grooves into the unobtanium, but maybe this is something we can play with on Logan's roller. I don't exactly wanna etch up a $70+ piece of rubber.
Couldn't we just wrap some tubing on it anyways? Zip tie a bit on and see how it does? I think that might work.
