The winning team got 0 ranking points. That is why teams score for other teams. This was really important in '07 and '06 when our robot was so dominant and there was no rule that would ultimately penalize for our team having a high score, and the losing team having a low score. Of course this year, with G-14, every team wanted to make sure that they did not double other teams.

And I believe that the biggest pain in doing the system was mainly entering the scores. We did not have a proper scoring table, or anything, and the lack of crowd control and increase of chaos caused it to be a bit hectic.

So, why is it bad then? We will have to enter the scores none the less in the new system.

Ah, well we will have to make it easy to use and easy to modify previous scores. Plus we're planning it now so things should a bit more organized.

Sunny wrote:This year will be much harder because of the field reset and counting the balls in the trailers. While I do not expect scoring to get too high, I do think that counting the score will be harder. We'll need official score keepers, probably 2 for each alliance. They can double off as referees, but we'll need a field re-set crew so that the score keepers can figure out the score.

The amount of score keepers all depends on how many robots we have a alliance. I don't think they should double off as referees, as they will be more focused on counting the balls in trailers, rather than violations. If they notice something, they can explain it to a referee. A field reset crew may not be required if we can get a good system for the score keepers.

Well, this year, first had one score keeper for each robot. It was because they were doing real-time scoring. They had their little controller thingies to keep up with the score, and then at the end of the match, they counted the balls in the trailers and made sure that they got the score right. So they had to be focused on one aspect of the match.

Unless we decide to do real-time scoring, then the score keepers won't be doing anything during the match. And last year, the referees counted the score anyways. So if we have 4 refs on the field, who, after the match, count up the score, then I see no reason why that wouldn't be possible.

And the reason the FIRST was bad, was because it wasn't a true sense of a team's ability, but rather of the losing team's ability. The argument was not on whether or not we'd have to entire the scores. The argument was how the scores would affect the RP.

True, true, I forgot about that (and not to mention I don't think we have enough iPod Touch's/iPhones to do such a system - although that would be freakin' awesome).

Four referees sounds like a good number. They can be our referees/score keepers.

Hm. I see that now. So we're doing this method "Sort by wins first, and then sort by the total number of points your alliance has scored."?

It might be possible to do it in LabView. I'd have to spend a bit more time playing with it. I haven't done much with it other than robotics stuff so stuff like normal programming is a bit unknown to me it in it. Though it shouldn't take too long, just familiarization.
