Battery Strap Breaking

Post by Tanner »

I looked at the video Strain took during the match our battery fell out and I think I've come up with a way of how it happened.

Picture 1 - Battery is being jostled around a lot as we run into the bump/tower. I'm thinking this is where the strap comes off at, but not sure how.

Picture 2 - The robot is coming off the bump. Battery cables are high in the air and the battery isn't seen on the mount. It's fallen inward towards the kicker and is resting on the kicker foot.

Picture 3 - Something is wrong - battery is not in the mount and is indeed resting on the kicker.

Picture 5 - Battery is completely on the ground. I think the strap is hanging barely from the robot.

Couldn't really tell much from anything. Although it looks like the strap could've torn off due to stress or what not, it looked like a clean slice from my POV. I'm not sure about anything though. It happened in the worst possible match too. Had we run that match, I'm confident that we would've won and we would've shown teams that we can play consistently.

You can see a bit, but its totally not the full/entire story of how it broke. Kind of like playing CSI or NCIS.

It was a clean slice, though I'm not sure how it would've happened. From what I get from the photos it either happend just before or after we landed/went up the bump. I can't get too much from the pictures of how it happened, though I certainly get what happened after it happened.

We just got a bit ahead of ourselves and didn't think to check the simple things.

Perhaps it was due to the constant tension people put on it while tightening it for matches. the harder you pull, the tighter it gets, the tighter it is pulled across the battery edges, the easier it is to split.

Of course that is only an idea.
