Changes For Worlds

Postby Sunny » March 30th, 2010, 7:31 am

I was talking to Tanner a little bit today before school, and I realized that we really don't have that much time before worlds.

There's no meeting this week, there's spring break next week, and we might meet Monday and Tuesday the week of Worlds...

With this in mind, we need to talk about the changes that we plan to implement.

On the robot, the kicker works well, the drive is alright, and the electronics are decent.

The only thing that I feel like we need to replace are...

The wiring between the main breaker and the power distribution board.
Another system along withthe switch system for the ball intake.
Replace the window motor (Probably want to create a new mount all together so that we don't waste time).
And mount the Crio in a more secure manner.

IMO, the ball intake backing system is the most important one above, and will undoubtedly dictate how we perform during the qualification matches, and how teams look at us when picking for finals. We were pushing that switch system to its limits during the finals, and in direct relation, the window was taking a lot of heat (literally)

And possibly create something better to keep us from running over balls In the back.

In one of the matches where we had a ball under us, it came in from the side :O we might want to add something there too.

After a closer look, the balls kept on coming under from the right side. In accordance with that, the shaft is higher on the right side than the left, and the balls slip through.

We don't need to add anything to the sides because while balls do come out from the sides, they never go under through the sides.

To do for Wednesday:
Cut vertical PVC pieces for the redirection superstructure
Cut plexiglass for superstructure
Prepare the backing flap
Get a new window motor for the roller
Finish bottom bars
Prepare the encoder for the roller.

The programming team needs to program the encoder fail-safe and anything else that needs to be changed in the robot code.

Just double checking what I have to do as far as the roller goes.

When the roller is on and the encoder rate is close enough to zero to be zero, stop the roller (as we have a ball and will over torque the motor). Otherwise, assume normal operation?

I could do that.

And you also need to resume Roller operation upon kicking, too. Also, this does not account for the ball slipping out if the ball does not turn the roller. Maybe an override switch?

It resumes roller operation upon kicking currently.

If I just say "hey if the roller is supposed to be moving and it isn't => stop all engines, but if it is, keep it rollin'" that should work for even when it slips out.

This might work good enough to get rid of the backing. Though that depends how accurate the bottom bar and stuff stays. If it moves, that ball is definitely not going to be legal anymore.

My systems don't take care of legalities, the mechanical guys do.

Them be fighting words!!!

But the bottom sits in a position where the ball is wedged in and torquing the roller, the ball is still on the ground (kinda).
