Mini Moon Rocks

I know we've discussed sometime ago that we could use Wiffle Balls for mini moon rocks, but I thought of something. They aren't squishy. With the actual orbit balls, they had holes and were collapsible.

So, are we going to consider this quality important to include in the game? Cause I know we relied on using the squishy-ness of the balls just to get them to collapse enough to fire from the top.

No matter how much fun I think it would be to make little tiny orbit balls, its not exactly sharable with everyone who would like to play the game...

Wiffle balls are indeed ... "squishy." Like if you squeeze them in your hand, then they definitely give way. Probably not as much as the orbit balls, but I think they give way 'enough'. And wiffle balls also have holes...so any pneumatic sort of shooting system is harder.

I think wiffle balls are our best option considering that this is a fun event, we want people to be able to get the game pieces easily, and if we do go about trying to make these custom made orbit balls, we'd have to make at least 124.

Another issue that I thought of is human players. In lunacy they were a very essential part of the game, but in the mini-game, if the players are standing up, they can literally make cross court shots. My thoughts are that either players need to sit down and we construct the field to accommodate the height of these players or we create a different method of shooting that will be harder (idk like a mini catapult or something). Any thoughts on this?

If they are as squishy as you say they are, but not too resilient, I think they'd be a good ball.

And perhaps human players are best discussed in another topic, so I'm splitting that off.

Hm...that's an interesting idea. By nerf balls, I assume you mean http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_t?url ... ls&x=0&y=0

If that's the case, then I think it's a decent idea. I mean some of the arguments against this idea could be that

1. They are too compressible. The orbit balls were definitely WAY more rigid than that.

2. I'm not sure if they come in 3" diameter.

3. One key part of the orbit balls, IMHO, was that they had holes in them, which prevented any pressured shooting mechanism, and caused a bit of instability during the actual "flight" of the ball.

4. How much would they cost us? If we order the value pack (http://www.amazon.com/Nerf-Refill-Value ... 932&sr=8-3) then we would need at least 7 packs, and that would run about $210. And wiffle balls would run around $80 (for an entire field set).

i believe the best path is with the wiffle balls. they are cheaper, more efficient, sizable, and original...


also, keep in mind that some of the balls will have to possibly be replaced from match to match...

The replacement part is a good point, and wiffle balls are surprisingly robust. Like they give way easily, and sometimes constant bending can create white stress marks on the balls, but that's not nearly enough to actually break the balls.

Plus Wiffle Balls would be easy to paint if we decide to do all the different balls (which I think we need to do). Tie a string to it with a weight at the end and dump in paint. Or something along the lines of that. Simple.

I think it might be a MAJOR pain to paint 120 blue, and then paint 4 orange and then 4 green. I think we should keep the primarily moon rock color white, and then paint the 8 we need to paint.

Well, if we're going to paint a lot of them we're not going to do it with a paintbrush. That is why the invented spray paint and/or buckets that can be filled with paint. Spray or dip, your choice.
