Rules

Post by Sunny »

Hello,

The following link leads to the first draft of the rules. It isn't much, but I've made some changes to the game rules.

Please let me know if something needs to be fixed.

The definition of "aisle" in 3.1 is a bit confusing, as you don't directly state what a "aisle" is.

The first part of 3.2 seems a bit pushy to remind them that, but I don't think it belongs in the rules, more like something to remind them before the teams attend.

The fourth part of practice timing in 3.3 is confusing. What I read that as is that teams can return as many times as they want/can in their ten minute interval? Though I think that will be difficult to manage. If a team leaves the field, they must wait for the next slot. I think that is what you mean, but you really don't say it clearly.

The fourth and fifth part of qualification match in 3.3 is a bit off our rules/goal/vision. They can use whatever they want as long as we make sure in a match, two systems don't have the same "control frequency". And this also regards to the robot rules, it would be nice to use just VEX, but VEXNet is ok as long as we make sure it doesn't collide with another "frequency". Also, it seems you need to define more of what a qualification match is rather than defining what the game is.

I don't think the commons floor is marble? Maybe some sort of heavy tile?

We have a head referee? Do we plan to have one? I don't really think we need one, unless we want to and feel we need one. And I don't think the whole video rule is needed, we haven't had trouble with it before and I know it is just from our experience. If hasn't been done, why do we need it?

The robot dimensions should be rounded. I personally am not measuring the robots to a hundredth of a inch. And just for making life easy, we could say teams must use any smooth, solid plastic wheel and just prefer the VEX wheel.

I think that is all I see right now. Overall though it seems quite good. Maybe number the parts of the sections so we can refer to them better (like G14 - not "third paragraph of 'qualiications' of section 3"). Just a suggestion though.

I didn't define an aisle..if someone doesn't know what an aisle is, I'm sure he/she will find at adequate definition on m-w.com

I think the first part of 3.2 is a friendly reminder, but I'll go ahead and remove it.

I changed the 3.3 rules to read "Each time is limited to ten minutes per slot". Since the number of slots is unlimited, there's no need to mention it.

I included the video rule because we felt it was unfair during the FRC competition and I would like to give the competitors that chance. We should have a head referee. If there's no one in charge, then it'll be extremely chaotic.

I think that the sizing box that Randy made is actually rounded to a tenth of an inch. I'll make the changes to reflect that.

I'll fix the numbering and formatting as we move forward.

About the flooring, I don't think it's marble either, but I believe it has the effect of being marble. If we can get an official name or something, I'd be happy to put that into the rules.
