Yeah. As much as I like helping people, we're there to display robotics, not to help people find their rooms (though we can). Though a big map would be a good idea. Or at least something of the such.

I like the idea of a graphs and statistics of stuff . I remember my mom and I once made some graphs of which colleges alumni went to. I'm not sure if we still have it, but I'll check.

As determined as you are to promote robotics, we have to look at this realistically. If we have the 1 table in the upper atrium like we had last year, then it we can't do too much with it. I still think that we'd attract a significant crowd if we ran the bot. Running the lunacy bot, IMHO, is a bad idea cause o' the lack of friction, so I think the c-base would be the best idea. People seem to be more interested when they actually see the thing moving.

Statistics of FIRST, or even our particular team, would be nice, but I'm not sure exactly how many people would stop and look at it.

I'm thinking of having the membership handout page at open house. It'll be a good information handout.

if u think about it, the parents walking by will be attracted to fun yet educational things. if we have the robot running, that would attract lots o attention, though idk how many people will come to sign up, more like just to "watch a cool robot then move on for more entertainment." if we can get some signs and stuff to direct and give a lil info, that could give some help. we could try to set up the table to mix our club: serious in one part, fun and crazy in another corner, maybe in the middle have goals and promises, yada yada yada.

another thought is that one thing we need to try and share is our image. people always look at us and are like "losers, all they do is build crap and arent social"

though that is 100% true, we can sorta show people that we are fun and know how to have a good time.

well we could do the signs to show the table but have like little maps of the school at the bottom of the signs showing where people are and what area are they close to....

I know that it'd be obvious to assume that parents would want to put their child into something that is educational and junk, but seeing as how that didn't work last year, I don't see that much improvement will be happening this year.

If you want to show a little fun, we should have the end of the year picture video running. It shows intense competition moments, as well as some funny, 'club' moments as well.

As far as a map is concerned, I see no reason to even worry about that. The school gives maps to people who enter the building, so for us to give them a map, would be...useless. And if people point to their map and ask where they area, it isn't exactly polite to hand them an entirely new map and say use this one (and I doubt that our map would be much better).

But anyway, we should work out our table design and stuff BEFORE we get all caught up on how we're going to guide people. Last year, Tanner and I just pointed and I can easily say we helped a BUNCH of people.

we should hook up a boom box onto the robot and drive it around. that could attract some attention

:D

I'm not even sure if we'd be allowed to drive it. The reason I suggested the C-base was that we would have more control over it and it would be one less reason for the admin. to not let us do it.

We'll have to see.

Once again, that is dependent on the admin. but considering that most boom boxes come with battery compartments...it might not be worth the effort to wire it.

I doubt very much that we'd get to do anything other than have a table and a robot. People are moving around and it gets kinda busy.

And does it really matter if something doesn't work? As long as it was tried and presented, then there is nothing left to be said. It doesn't have to be big, but as long as something is there to show "hey - we go to great colleges" it works.

We can be fun, useful, and helpful all at once, but I don't really want to go ending up helping people find rooms 100% of the time. If we do, at least give them a little info card or something (or disguise it was something else so they'll take it... idk).

So we definitely have a table in the upper atrium then?

If we were to caution tape off a small area for the robot to drive in...?
