FIRST in 2011 - 2013
Hello Everyone,
When I think of our robotics, we are often, in loss of a better term, protected.
We are protected from having to travel thousands of miles to compete, we are protected from having to worry about having enough funds to compete, and we are protected from the worry of maybe not having a mentor. But these are things that teams who compete in FIRST have to deal with all the time.
Today, the location for the 2011 - 2013 championship was announced. The finalists were Atlanta, Indianapolis, and Saint Louis.
Saint Louis got the go ahead for the championships for all FIRST events. So the championships went from our backyard, into someone else's backyard.
In the short term, meaning this year, it doesn't mean much. We still build a good robot, we still compete hard, and we still have a road to the GA dome. But next year, that's not true. It will cost money to transport people, transport equipment, rent hotel rooms, buy food, etc.
I think this is even more fuel to add to the flame.
Guys, we're due. And this is the last year that World's is in our backyard. I think that this could be our year, but then again, so does every other team. We're going to need to work harder, we're going to need to work faster, we're going to need to be stronger. Plus the fact that P'tree is week 1 doesn't help anything.
Use this as food for thought. What are your opinions of the Championships in St. Louis? Do you think that whatever we achieve this year can help the team in the years to come?

It'll be interesting. 'Twill be a different experience for us as we won't have our entire shop in our backyard or all the resources at home (i.e. a nice bed).
Will also become a interesting idea as if we do get to Nationals, and we would obviously need more money -- more than we have now, a lot more. And I don't think Motorola would pay for all of that -- they already pay for a lot as they do now (+6.02E23 points to Moto).
Yeah, everything we do will carry over as long as we teach it and make sure it has a way of being carried on - whether that means people or manuals/tutorials/videos.

Aww.... I just realized something....
With FIRST moving to St. Louis, Sir Charles can't say "the road to the GA Dome" anymore... Aww... Well, this is the last year at least.
Road the to the St. Louis Arch? Ew.

Yeah but "Road to the AC Cubed"...kinda lame.
Plus AC is Asian Chris...so...that's potentially problematic.
